Common Questions About Computer Training
in Businesses
How do you customize the training
for me and my employees?
Every company has different requirements. While every
employee needs basic skills, some companies want word
processing experts that can create flyers, others want
spreadsheet geniuses, others may need employees who can
create great sales presentations.
Funnygate Technologies provides questionnaires to your employees to
determine levels of experience and knowledge. The
results of the questionnaires are analyzed and compared
with your specific needs to develop training goals.
Lesson plans are developed to meet these goals.

Do you customize the manuals
too?
Yes, Funnygate Technologies customizes the available
training manuals for your company. As an example,
different companies and industries have different
Internet needs. When Funnygate Technologies trains your
employees to effectively search the Internet, we use
examples applicable to your business. The manuals are
customized to include those same examples.

What do you mean by "hands-on
learning"?
For most people, the best way to learn is by doing.
The ideal training situation sits each employee in front
of a computer so that the employee can make mistakes in
a training session and learn from them. Sample files
that mimic real-world files are used and created during
the lesson. Hands-on learning helps relieve fears and
teaches problem solving skills in a safe,
non-threatening environment.

Why do you prefer to allow time
between sessions?
Funnygate Technologies designs training in sessions with
various sessions spread over a number of days or weeks
to allow time to use what has been learned in real-world
situation. This reinforces the training and provides the
opportunity to ask relevant questions in the next
training session.

What range of users have you worked
with?
Funnygate Technologies has worked with a wide range of
users - from people who have never used a computer
before (and are afraid of it) to advanced users quite
comfortable with computers. The focus is different for
the various levels of users. Beginners need to become
comfortable with the technology to learn the basics.
With advanced users the training focuses on efficiency
and useful tips and techniques.

What software do you teach?
We are familiar with a large number of software
products including Windows, E-mail programs, Internet
browsers, word processors, spreadsheets, databases,
presentation programs, CD creation, Front Page,
PhotoShop, and other graphic programs. We have worked
extensively with images from scanners and digital
cameras.

Where are your training facilities?
We do not have training facilities. We teach at
your location on your computers, or our traveling laptop
lab. We prefer that
your employees work on their computers with their
versions of the software. This eliminates
differences and problems like "it didn't do this in
class" or "it doesn't work like this on my
computer." We do have a traveling computer lab
that can be customized for your employee needs. We
like to observe your employees work habits on the
computers to see what custom tailoring that we can
provide for your needs.

Common Questions About Computer Training
in Your Home
How do you customize the training
for me?
We generally converse with customers during our
initial contact to get an understanding of your needs
and your current skills. We'll also ask you to fill out
a questionnaire during our first meeting. We want to
learn what you are comfortable with and, most
importantly, your goals.
Funnygate Technologies
adjusts your sessions based on your needs and your
goals. At times, beginners don't even know what they
want to do with their computer. That isn't a problem -
with a little background and a little conversation,
we'll work together to set and meet some goals.

I can't even use a mouse! Can you
help me?
We've worked with people of all ages and all levels
of experience. If you want to learn, Funnygate Technologies
can teach you. You'll control the mouse and keyboard
during the lessons - you learn more by doing than by
watching. We'll work at a comfortable pace and allow you
time to practice between sessions. With a little
background information and a general understanding of
the computer you will begin to understand it. We've had
customers comment that after as little as 1 hour of
training, they were more comfortable with the
computer.
We can also work with people with
disabilities. It sometime takes more time, but people
with disabilities can become comfortable and even
proficient with the computer.

I'm a self taught user and I do
OK. Can you help me?
We enjoy working with self-taught users. If you can
teach yourself, you're obviously motivated and excited
about the computer. While self-taught users have figured
out some very advanced programs and features, they often
have "holes" in their knowledge. Funnygate Technologies can
help by providing some basics that fill in those holes
and by helping you to solve problems.

situations. This reinforces the training and provides
the opportunity to ask relevant questions in the next
training session.

Can you offer advice on buying
computers?
Buying a computer is a personal decision - just like
buying a car. You have to look at available features,
your budget, and your needs.
Funnygate Technologies
does not sell computers and is not affiliated with any
company that does, so we can talk with you about your
options and help you with your decision. We explain all
those "computer-ese" terms like ram, megs, gigs, memory,
dpi, etc, so that you can confidently speak with a
salesman to purchase a computer system that meets your
needs. You may be entirely happy with an
inexpensive, brand-name machine, or you may want to have
something special custom built to last your business for
years.

products including Windows, E-mail programs, Internet
browsers, word processors, spreadsheets, databases,

Most computers come with some software
already installed. We'll teach you about the software
already installed on your computer or help you to
install new software.

Do you teach Macintosh/Apple
Computers?
Funnygate Technologies works with Windows-based
computers. We have limited experience with Mac
systems.
How long have you used a computer?
How did you learn all this?
I enjoy computers. I've worked on computers
professionally since 1984 and I had one at home even
before that. It is my hobby as well as my
profession.
I worked 15 years in an IT department
for a large Public Utility in the Bay Area. I was
also the Director of Technology for a Bay Area school
district for 6 years. My experience is not just
self-taught, but hands-on learning and teaching in the
information technology arena.

How long do I need to take
lessons to be able to do what I want?
This is a tough question to answer because every
person is unique. Different people want to be able to do
different things and people learn in their own unique
way. Here are some comparisons that may explain:
- Learning computers is a little like learning to
play a musical instrument. Some people want to be able
to play professionally, others just want to be able to
play for their own satisfaction. The second group
needs fewer lessons than the first group.
- Just like music lessons, how quickly you learn
depends on the individual - some people have more
natural talent than others, though anyone can learn.
- And like learning an instrument, learning the
computer takes PRACTICE!!
